The NNPC Exploration and Production Ltd., NEPL, and Seplat Energy Joint Venture (JV) has established two Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) laboratories in two public schools in Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta.
The Director of External Affairs & Social Performance, Seplat Energy Plc, Mrs Chioma Afe, stated this during the handover of the facilities to the Delta Ministry of Education on Thursday in Asaba.
Afe was represented by the General Manager, Corporate Social Investment & Social Performance, Seplat Energy Plc, Mrs Esther Icha,
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the laboratories were established at Zappa Basic Secondary School and Asagba Mixed Secondary School, Asaba.
Afe said the initiative was aimed at expanding students’ access to practical learning and equipping them with skills in science, technology, innovation and problem-solving needed for future development.
She said the laboratories represented a strong investment in students, schools and communities, adding that the project was the seventh STEAM laboratory established by the company in the state.
“This moment represents more than just the commissioning of a room filled with equipment.
“It represents a strong investment in the future of our students, our schools and our state,” she said.
Afe said STEAM education had become fundamental to innovation, problem-solving, creativity and sustainable development in the modern world.
She said the laboratories would enable students to move beyond theoretical learning to practical experimentation, designing and testing ideas while building confidence to solve real-life problems.
Afe said each laboratory represented a step toward expanding access to practical, hands-on learning and preparing young people for opportunities in the 21st century.
