By Dare Babalola
Nigeria is expected to host about 3,000 delegates from more than 126 countries for the 2026 World Public Relations Forum, as the country prepares to use the international gathering to promote responsible communication, diplomacy and global cooperation.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, as reported by Newsetter.ng, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, disclosed this on Monday following a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, led by its president, Dr Ike Neliaku.
The forum is scheduled to hold from November 15 to 22, 2026, bringing together public relations practitioners, strategic communications experts and branding professionals from across the world.
A key feature of the event will be a high-level Diplomatic Dialogue examining how responsible communication can help rebuild trust amid growing international distrust.
The session will focus on the theme, “Diplomacy in an Age of Global Distrust: The Power of Responsible Communication in Building Peace, International Cooperation, and Sustainable Development.”
The dialogue is expected to examine how communication can strengthen relationships between countries, promote mutual understanding and support peaceful cooperation.
The NIPR delegation visited Odumegwu-Ojukwu to discuss Nigeria’s hosting of the international event and its significance for the country’s public relations and diplomatic engagement.
The forum will bring together professionals whose work influences how governments, institutions and organisations communicate with the public and international stakeholders.
With delegates expected from across more than 126 countries, the event presents an opportunity for Nigeria to showcase its capacity to host international professional gatherings and strengthen its engagement with the global communications community.
However, the extent to which the forum will translate into lasting diplomatic or economic benefits will depend on the partnerships and initiatives that emerge from the discussions.
